I'm Brad and I'm from the Wellington/Porirua area. I'm of the younger generation (19) but I've been around cars 99% of my life mostly coming from my parents side. We are mostly Drag Racers and some of you may know the old man as he does the announcing at Masterton Drags and also the National series. Anyway, enough of the family stuff!
My current/ish ride:
1981 Nissan/Datsun (if you're American...) 280ZX Fairlady 2+2.
2.8 Inline 6. Single cam. Non turbo. L28e
It's currently faded matte black with a shiny bonnet
Mostly rust....
So there isn't much to say about the beast. I purchased it off a mate who recently passed away (r.i.p Udo) after borrowing the old girl for a burnout comp. It was almost love at first sight. She was pretty rooted rust wise but she pulled off a good skid so I decidied to take her home like all great relationships. It sat up at Jaspers place for months (cheers mate!!) and competed in a burnout comp or two until we moved into our current location. One day it hit me, maybe I could get it road legal? Hours and hours of welding and sheetmetal work plus a couple of new tyres and it drove out of work with a fresh wof. What a fantastic day that was!
Here's a couple of pics from wof day:

The burnouts continued (as we run burnouts.co.nz) and times were bloody good. I had a lot of fun with her as all young men would. It went well and liked to be driven hard. It drove pretty well at speed and seemed to take corners pretty well for something close to 30 years old and bone stock!
Plans were high for her considering the rust. They included supercharging the current motor or importing a stock turbo motor out of the states. Some shaving of the body including the marker lights, door handles, gas cap, rear bumper and parts of the boot. Mags were on the list but I knew I would have trouble finding mags in a - offset, over 17" and 4x114.3
Jasper and I were out on a cool Thursday evening. I was parked up on the side of the road and some silly cow decided my car would benefit from a good smash in the front end. To give you an idea:

It doesn't look that bad in the pic but the worst part is that the bumper shocks are mounted very solidly to the front chassis which is now on the piss and the bonnet is also on the piss because it looks as if where the hinges bolt to have been moved over (more structural damage...)
She had 3rd party insurance (as I did) so repairs shouldn't be a problem right? WRONG! It's been well over a month and the car is still on the lawn. State insurance have made multiple f^$k ups with repair quotes so things have been pretty slow. Parts are the other issue.
BUT
This isn't a hating thread so as soon as the car is sorted out/replaced this build thread will continue as all good things do. Plans were to paint the car this colour (I only got around to painting the bonnet):

Anyway. That is me for now. Any comments/questions good or bad are welcome. Will be a sweet time meeting everyone here
Cheers
Brad Doughty
